Women's Series Results for 2007

Non-Spinnaker

Mixed Cruiser

2nd Place- Roseanne Vernon, Liberty Call

Congratulations to all of the winners this year. We had a total of 14 boats participating throughout the series for 2007.

Make plans to attend the First Coast Sailing Association Meeting on Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at Epping Forest Yacht Club to receive your award. Invite your crew and join everyone for an evening of celebrations!

November Sail and Workshop 2007

Our next Sail and Workshop will be held on Sunday, November 11th. We will meet at Epping Forest Yacht Club on "Bananas" at 12 noon. Bob McClemens will be hosting this workshop-covering sail trim. He will have a short instructional and discussion period before we go out sailing and practice our sail trim.
When you come to the gate at Epping Forest, tell the gate keeper that you are going to down the marina and going on Bananas for a sail.

Women on the Water Regatta

Our final Regatta for the Women's Series 2007 was held this past Saturday, November 10th at the Rudder Club.
Spinnaker Class 1st place- Kaos- Kim Brew

November Meeting

Our next meeting will be Thursday, November 15th at the Gun & Tackle Club. Social at 5:30pm and meeting starts at 6:00pm.

The agenda will include results for the Women's Sailing Series 2007, Changes for the Women's Sailing Series 2008, upcoming On the Water Sail and Workshop, Christmas Party (December 16th), and Planning Ahead for 2008.

On The Water With Jacqui

Our first On The Water Sail and Workshop event for 2007 was on Jacqui Welti's Freedom 40. We had a gorgeous day with the sun shinning, warm weather and some wind. We all took turns at the helm and each had the opportunity to sail this magnificent boat. Jacqui spoke about the history of her boat and what it takes to make this sailboat sail even in light winds!

Our next On the Water Sail and Workshop Event will be on Sunday, November 11th at 12 noon. We will meet at Epping Forest Marina on Bananas. Bob McClemens will be hosting the workshop. He will give us a short instructional and discussion period before we head out on the water. We will learn more about sail trim. Lots of sharing and telling sailing stories.

Saturday Sail and Workshop

Come join us as we sail out onto the St. Johns River on a Freedom 40 on Saturday, October 20th. We will meet with Jacqui at the Ortega Yacht Club at 12 noon. Her boat "Kara Vela" is located at the end of "B" dock. A workshop on the river will include "How to be a Tactician" during a race. What to look for at the start of a race- pin end versus committee boat end; currents; wind direction, etc. Our guest for this sail is David Parrish who has a lot of knowledge sailing and racing on the St. Johns River. Captain's Course

Anyone interested in getting a Captain's License?

Contact the Sea School at 1-800-237-8663 and join fellow sailors who will be taking this course in November. Ask for Nelli.
It is a 3 week program:
Starts November 3rd, 9 am - 6 pm, Saturday and Sunday for 3 weekends.
There is also a 1 weekend, then 5 evenings, then 1 weekend program.
The Sea School is located at 8252 Arlington Road, Jacksonville, FL

Upcoming NFWSN Meeting

Join us for our next NFWSN meeting coming up on October 18th. We will have a short social at 5:45 pm and the meeting will start at 6:00pm. We are meeting at the North Florida Gun & Tackle Club located on San Jose Blvd.
Topics of discussion will include the Hands on the Helm Regatta (3rd race)event; First Coast Sailing Association, 4th and final race of the Women's Series, Saturday's workshop and sailing...

Hands on the Helm for Hubbard House


Don't forget the upcoming Hands on the Helm for Hubbard House Regatta on Friday, October 5th and Saturday, October 6th. This is the 3rd race in the Women's Series. A woman must be at the helm for this race. Spinnaker and Non-Spinnaker classes opened to all female crews. Cruiser Class for mixed crews. (50% males max)
All events held at the Rudder Club in Orange Park, FL.
Friday- October 5th - 7-10:00pm Registration and Party
Dinner, music, raffles, registration for race
Saturday- October 6th- 9:30am Brunch
9:30-10:30am Registration
11:00 am Skipper's Meeting
12 noon Warning Signal for all classes
ASAP presentation and Social after race
Entry fee: $35; $40 day of race. Make checks payable to North Florida Cruising Club. Entry form on www.sailjax.com

Hello and Welcome to the Northeast Florida Women's Sailing Network!
We are located in Jacksonville, FL.

Our Purpose:

To provide a network among women with or without sailing experience to allow us to grow in sailing knowledge and ability through:

We meet on the 3rd Thursday of the month, at the Florida Gun & Tackle Club. Short social at 5:45pm with meeting starting at 6:00pm
